So, What Really Is Olx Ghana?
In very simple terms, Olx Ghana is a platform for buyers and sellers and it acts as the connecting piece for buyers and sellers in a market system. Usually the market system is physical but with olx, the market system is online now. You can advertise just about anything on here except the very illegal stuffs of course
Those who have been in the Ghanaian commerce space for a while will go, ‘welp this isn’t the olx I know and besides, olx is jiji now’, uhhh you my friend are right and wrong. You are right that this new olx ghana platform isn’t the olx you once knew, in fact this platform has no relation or anything of the sort to Olx Group or any of it’s affiliates. You are wrong that olx ghana is jiji now, nope never, it’s just not the same platform
Why Olx Ghana? To be fair, I woke up one mid morning, contemplating on a lot of industries that’s got a lot of foreign folks raking in the big bags/returns while the Ghanaians in that space (if there are any), rake in little or no returns in comparison. I still remember freshly how pissed I was as I dug deeper into several industries, was pacing up and down, my mom was sweeping at the other end I think,I very much remember.
Decided I need to do something about it, so I started with Olx Ghana, at the time I didn’t have enough money to start but I still wanted to start it, eventually everything fell in line like a text book miracle or something, Made the most money I’ve ever made in my life at the time and wallah, Olx Ghana was born. I wanted to start with a recognized name that is either still in the Ghanaian commerce space or was once in there, because I knew starting Freshly with an unrecognized name will demand a lottttt in costs especially marketing cost and I wasn’t going to go that route, knew some wordpress basics, checked this current domain name availability, no one owned it so I bought it and here we are
Started in november 2023, was gaining momentum, in quarter or mid 2024, the site hit 90,000 or 100,000 page views, felt happy and sad. Happy because I knew this platform could be the next big thing in the Ghanaian commerce space, I mean you can see the signs. Sad because I got hit a bit hard financially and I just couldn’t keep up with the operating costs, and that meant I had to do a control platform shut down, those who have been following the site for a while can attest to the fact that, it got to a time all you could see was a ‘coming soon page’, I think that went on for a year and a half or two
Welp, it is 2026 and we are continuing from where we left it, except better than before, and this time we are starting small, tried reaching out to other site owners in the commerce space for a collaboration/partnership, it just didn’t work out. To be fair with my current financial state, I shouldn’t have been able to get this site up and running, but I love this and my heart is in this and when I have those two qualities with me, I can build universes if I intend on
I bet when you clicked on this article, this wasn’t what you expected, you probably expected some generic corporate/professional writing, nope nope never, we don’t do that here, we are a community first and relate as such, everything else is just secondary. I personally have reservations of the corporate lifestyle, I think it is molded in lies, lacks authenticity, too unnatural and outright denigrating to how we are meant to live, but that’s a discussion for another day
One more thing to wrap this up, I actually built the 2023 version of this site all on my smartphone, yes that is impressive to me but may not be for a lot of You. I told jiji on facebook that olx ghana is coming for their crown so uhh I’ll end it here and get to work. All the very best To every Ghanaian taking over and excelling in their various fields. I am no saviour but It is imperative that the Ghanaian owns it and Africa’s production and consumption points, exactly that is what we will do, EBAMI.
